You really ARE lucky. When I was in college, I learned that the Los Angeles area was called, "The Valley of the Smokes", by the Native Americans that lived in this region originally.
I am hoping that it is almost over, but many more people will be going through the same thing as this fire continues on.
Doin' better. MIGHT not have to evacuate my home after all, even though the evacuation zone is getting closet to my house. Fires are scary!
Yep, that was the one, Hatchet. Sounds like a good book. Movies seldom live up to the quality of a book though.
NP, I'll have to ask my friend in FL about the book she was telling me about. It sounded good. Another survival-type story about a boy who was lost in the wilderness. I think she said he was in a plane crash in Canada or Alaska.
Jeeez, that sounds...uplifting. No, My Side of the Mountain is nothing at all like that. Nothing imaginary in it at all.
If you liked War of the Worlds, you might like Jeff Wayne's Musical Production of War of the Worlds, which was originally recorded back in the early '80s. There are some really good songs on it, and some great dramatic performances. You can get it on CD.
Ah, good, so you are familiar with Mr. Wells. You would probably like other books of his, too. If you like adventure stories, My Side of the Mountain is a good one. I was recommending that to someone else last week. It's about a boy who decides to live by himself in the woods and how he survives on his own in the wilderness. It's a very good story, by Jean Craighead George. Probably your school library has it.
H.G. Wells, an early 20th Century author who wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Time Machine, The First Men in the Moon...and many, many other excellent titles. His science fiction novels proved to be very prophetic in their prediciton of future technology. With the exception of War of the Worlds being "prophetic" of course. XD Keeping in mind the era they were written in, they are very enjoyable reading 100 years later.
Cool story behind your name! When I was quite young..about 8 I believe, I read my first real SciFi story, which hooked me on reading that genre for life. Did you ever read The War of the Worlds?
I used to have one after I first met my husband. I named him Hamlet, but he was so good at escaping from his habitat, I renamed him Houdini.
Hi Big, how did you come up with your name, anynow? Have you read the Chronicles of Narnia?
Hey Big Dream! I like your "location." Funny. What do you like to read? I've been reading all sorts of things for many years, I could probably give you some good suggestions. I always love to talk about books, history and music.
