Heheh...I'll let you in on a little secret - at work the weeks don't go any faster! We're having some construction too, but it's just something to look at out the window if we have a chance. Doesn't really affect our work at all.

I'm good, Big, just chillin' after a long week at work.

Hey Big Dreams, how are you?

By ImWoodChuck on Aug 30, 2009 at 5:12 PM

Yep, that was the one, Hatchet. Sounds like a good book. Movies seldom live up to the quality of a book though.

NP, I'll have to ask my friend in FL about the book she was telling me about. It sounded good. Another survival-type story about a boy who was lost in the wilderness. I think she said he was in a plane crash in Canada or Alaska.

Ok, you'll probably like it, anyhow.

Jeeez, that sounds...uplifting. No, My Side of the Mountain is nothing at all like that. Nothing imaginary in it at all.

Hmmm, The Graveyard Book. Don't think I've heard of that one.

If you liked War of the Worlds, you might like Jeff Wayne's Musical Production of War of the Worlds, which was originally recorded back in the early '80s. There are some really good songs on it, and some great dramatic performances. You can get it on CD.

Ah, good, so you are familiar with Mr. Wells. You would probably like other books of his, too. If you like adventure stories, My Side of the Mountain is a good one. I was recommending that to someone else last week. It's about a boy who decides to live by himself in the woods and how he survives on his own in the wilderness. It's a very good story, by Jean Craighead George. Probably your school library has it.

H.G. Wells, an early 20th Century author who wrote The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Time Machine, The First Men in the Moon...and many, many other excellent titles. His science fiction novels proved to be very prophetic in their prediciton of future technology. With the exception of War of the Worlds being "prophetic" of course. XD Keeping in mind the era they were written in, they are very enjoyable reading 100 years later.

Cool story behind your name! When I was quite young..about 8 I believe, I read my first real SciFi story, which hooked me on reading that genre for life. Did you ever read The War of the Worlds?

Hi Big, how did you come up with your name, anynow? Have you read the Chronicles of Narnia?

By ImWoodChuck on Aug 15, 2009 at 8:51 AM

Hey Big Dream! I like your "location." Funny. What do you like to read? I've been reading all sorts of things for many years, I could probably give you some good suggestions. I always love to talk about books, history and music.
