PS You should d/l a few tables to get the feel of it before starting on your own. Watch out for "locked" tables, you can't learn anything from those. (No way to know that info before d/l'ing.) "Locked tables": you can't get to the script and perhaps can't get to the audio clips or table elements. There used to be a tutorial package out there - rather involved; I have a copy but have no idea if it is dated/superseded.
I just d/l'd v.9...wow what a difference from v6 or v7, the last time I played with VP. No more mess of files to install, now it's a compiled stand-alone like the good old DOS days. You might still need specialized add-ons for some games, I haven't checked...you should definitely visit the vp.org site and read up for yourself. The table I altered is a relatively simple one, an original 3 Stooges table. I could somehow get you a copy of the original and my modified mostly-good but still-buggy version if you'd like.
Wow...the two stalwarts are gone. RD's mini-site is still up http://www.randydavis.com/vp/intro.htm , but the two sites he links aren't. Looks like this one took up the slack: http://vpforums.org/
Howdy! Visual Basic, you say? Ah...I played with a a bastardized version of VB for a program called "Visual Pinball." Guy called Randy Davis - who has since joined the Dark Side and gone to work for M$ [g] - designed a platform for creating pinball games. There's a "table editor" with all the usual elements - flippers, bumpers, spinners, etc. - and a script editor, to make it all go. That's where the VB comes in. Some people created some very elaborate tables. My project? Take an existing table ("3 Stooges") and make it auto-play for a _long_ time. Worked on it sporadically for 2-3 years, constantly tweaking...I'd have it running in the background in a VM and it always locked up eventually. I think the longest run-time was a week or so. "Anyhoo." Davis is long gone though AFAIK his site is still up. Last I checked others were hosting his files and the user-created tables. See if I can get you some links...
OHai crossfire how ya doin? come join in... http://cheezburger.com/Molly_B/lolz/View/4255685120
From the inFURnally bad puns dept.: http://cheezburger.com/View/4166120448 http://cheezburger.com/View/4167382784 Buenas tacos!
Question for you. If I keep up the "incorrogment" despite your admonition not to "incorrige," does that make me an "incorrigible incorriger"? Inquiring minds like to have pun, no matter how groany: http://cheezburger.com/View/4136303104 . Have a great weekend, cua-l8r.
Hiya. Dunno if you've ever voted here, and if you haven't, it wouldn't surprise me given the system. I've got a better idea, however: http://cheezburger.com/View/4131875072 . Please tell me if you've got any other ideas...thanks. Hasta lumbago.
Psst, Ken. Here's some positively dreadful incorrigment. "Have Tums ready." http://cheezburger.com/View/4125197568 (I feel pretty dumb saying, "Hey, did you know there had been an ICHC event 2-3 weeks ago in West Hollywood ["itteh bitteh kitteh" book launch at Fatburger on Santa Monica Blvd; Ben was there]"; unfortunately, I found out about it only a day or so before and forgot to mention it... :( sorry! It was on a Monday night. Forgot if that fits your schedule...? Bonnie is the only one I know who went.)
Hope you're well. Long time no C! Thanks for the faves. The Pinky & The Brain is one of my personal favorites.
Long time no incorridge...question for you: do you prefer your puns visual or otherwise? This one's "sorta" visual: http://cheezburger.com/View/4085325824 . In that lol's spirit - flopping to draw a foul - "Don't dive like my brother." cua-l8r.

A pun-lol for geeks; too bad I ruined it a bit explaining it to everyone else. http://cheezburger.com/View/4010659840
Aloha. Spent the day in repose, sad to say. (Various nagging nothings.) So much for that visit...*sigh* Hey, do the Gilbert & Sullivan operettas ever make an appearance on NPR? Or is that a silly question? In the event, I thought I'd branch out a little with "The Kitteh That Looms On The Spring" http://cheezburger.com/View/4007019776 . "Don't drive like my brother," buenas no-cheez.
Buenas tacos n' such...for you or others maybe, my grub's not sitting too well with me this weekend *groan*, don't think I'm gonna make it. Fear not..."I'll be back!" eventually. Meanwhile, I proffer "a token of my groans"; "fishy incorrigment," if you will. http://cheezburger.com/View/4004142336 Best to you, cua-l8r.
