Don't you love those days of that!!!LOL. Stay Safe. Keep Your Eye on Everything. If you see something out of the ordinary, follow that instinct.Check it, and don't be surprised. I was walking to my Jet one day to Prep for a Recon. Noticed a Young Viet, paddling a bike going through the gate. He had Ripe Oranges in His basket. He Gave one to the guard and was slowly paddling away when I stopped him and asked him for one. He was hesitant, but let me pick one. Oh, It was ripe alright. The One I picked Had a Frag Grenade in it. We Arrested the boy. Don't know what happened to him but I'm sure we saved a few lives that day. Please stay Safe and Sharp. My Prayers are with You. Doc.
Yea I have been in the jungles in south America definately no fun and the heat is worse because of the humidity. Here it gets hotter than it did in South America but unless you are near the two rivers it is a dry heat and yes people joke about dry versus humid heat but there is a big difference. Yea I can recall no bathing in the jungles for the same reasons and here not for those reasons since combat is urban but have had 45 days without a shower here and yep pretty ripe. We use to say we smell like FAB, Feet, ass and balls lol.
Dude, Be Happy it's the dessert. When the Rains came in 'Nam it was no friggin picknick. When the storms came up, you got tense. The VC would ussually move around in that weather. After the storm 9 out of 10 there was a fire fight. Was usually hot and humid too. Couldn't take a shower because soap and deoderant was a dead give away of your position to the Gooks. So you man'd up and waitted to catch the bastards. Most times we gave more than we got. Stay Safe. Prayers are protecting you. Doc.
Thanks I know if you could you would be here and at least for a while probably love it. As with any deployment it wears on you after a while. Spring is here as well 90f in the afternoons. Hehe knew guys are complaining about the heat already, those of us who have been here a while just smile and think, "You have not seen anything yet brother." lol
Hey Man How's the war effort? I'm doing okay. Spring is here and things are going to start to warm up. Hope your safe. Prayers for you and your buddies everyday. How I wish I was Young enough to take the Burden off you and your guy's back. Show you guys some tricks how we caught the VC. Always a surprise. Stay Safe & Loose Doc.
So very cool that you had the chance to meet and work with all those people. I can see there has to be a sense of humor as that job can be very stressful not unlike here gags are always being played on one another. I have only met a few celebrities ususally doing some kind of protection detail so never really had a chance to say anything other than, "Hello a honor to meet you Man or Sir." The only celebrity I ever had a chance to speak with at length was Milla Jovovich she was very pleasent and down to earth. Yea it was a shame to see Miss Fisher along with other stars head down that road of drugs and alcohol I have seen so many lives ruined by it. I bet you have some fantastic memories and a chance to meet so many interesting people very very cool.
fine at that time. Now Mark Hamill was cool, but he did a film after Star Wars Called "Corvette Summer" He Actually was in an accident that scarred his face making that film. You can actually see part of the motion on film where he lost control and crashed. That's why In Empire he gets scratched across the face by the Snow Beast. It was to cover up the fact he had a scar. Harrison Ford, was the coolest. He had gone to school in Ripon, Wisconsin, so I could always talk to him about home and The Green Bay Packers. (I Think He's a Closet Bear's Fan)To Me the nicest and most interesting was Sir Alec Guiness. We Talked a little about "The Bridge On The River Kwi" and those stories were always interesting to me. Well, I hope all is going well for you. Stay Safe, Stay Smart. Hoorah! Doc.
Yeah, Thanks. It was Great being on that team. If the public could only see the gag reel. That's all the mistakes and jokes that went on behind the scenes. My Favorite was when they try to get into the control room the door wouldn't pop-up! But when They finally fixed it, Peter Mayhew who was potraying Chewbacca, put a cream pie into the face of the guard!! LOL was hysterical! The other unknown story is that Tony Daniels who played C3PO was a very gay actor, and David Prowse who played Darth Vader was an extremely strong hetrosexual. They had to break up a couple of fights between the two and that was never made Public. Still Isn't as far as I Know. Carrie Fischer was a charm but she started down that drug path, and that's why she was in Blue's Brothers from what I gather because she would do lines with Belushi. Super Nice people, but boy, fame can sure screw you up. I Just Bless Them all and Hope for the Best for them. Thou it seems Carrie sure put on a lot of weight!! And she was so
Like The Star Wars lols, with Carrie & Ken Baker In R2D2 Costume.. I remember when we shot that scene, We were having problems with the smoke machine. Ah yeah, I forgot to mention i worked in Show Bsiness for over 35 years. I worked for 2oth Century Fox Studio at the time Star Wars was shot in 1976. I worked in what is called PR or Publicity which I was assigned by Mr. Ron Lippencot to work with Lucas Film in putting together the advertising campaign. Since I was on the set a lot of times, I got to know the crew the actors and Mr. Lucas. He later asked me to join in as an extra when they shot the scene where Darth Vader Comes aboard Leia's ship. I actually can be seen in the film those it's brief and I have one of those stupid Tear Drop Helmet's, but I am crouched down right behind a Blonde Hairred guy. If you look, you would see me for about 4 or 5 seconds. I am not wearing my glasses, but those friends of mine who have seen it all agree, yeah it's you. So anyway hope all is well. Doc
Well, I'm doing okay for a Vet with a weak heart. I had a severe Heart attack in 2004 but I had by-pass surgery and a defibulator and pacemaker put in me. The Same model as VP Dick Cheny. The only side effect is that I feel like shooting an attorney every couple of weeks, Anyone want to go Duck Hunting? Ahhh....Never mind. I'm up in Wisconsin where it's cold with snow. I'm looking forward to NFL Playoffs, This is God's Country, Green Bay Packer Country, so I'm watching how they do. Do you have a favorite team or sport?
Dear larscog, I Hope all is well with you in the New year. As a Former Combat Vet Myself (Vietnam US Air Force Air 265th Recon Squadron FO. ) I know what you are going through. I Once was given this advice when in a hairy situation and you feel lost or down, look at any American Coin, It says: "In God We Trust". Trust your instincts and training. I Know I Did. Out of Six of us who went in, I'm the sole survivor. I'm proud their are young men like you who took my place and are doing "Honor" In The field. Stay Loose, Hang Tough, And drop a line every now and then. Hoowop. DrChopper.
