Oh DJ... I just saw your Dalmatian puppy LOL. Ohhh... I am doing my best to give you as big a cyber-hug as I can manage while fighting back the tears. (((((((HUG))))))) You learned something very important, so please don't feel too bad about yourself! Plenty of people never learn that lesson. ~soft kiss on forehead~
I'm probably a bit more into modern and contemporary architecture. Some of my faves would be the Petronas Towers in KL, Lloyd's Building and Wembley stadium in London, Millau Viaduct in France, Sky Tower in Auckland (but if you travel to NZ BE SURE you visit the south island as well as the north), basically anything going on in Dubai (I was there years ago before the first Palm Island was finished) or Moscow (I do like some of the older historic sites there, eg, St Basil's or the Cathedral Square of the Kremlin). I don't really enjoy se Asia all that much - what with the heat and humidity. Victoria is rather arid, and it's always a bit of a shock to step off the plane in Singapore or KL.
Guinness, eh? If it needs a spoon, I don't consider it beer, lol. Nope, I'm a fan of American kool-aid beer. Michelob Ultra is good. Also wheat-based micro-brew from Free State. // Yeah, I'd call that itinerary "a fair bit." The South Pacific? OK, I'm officially jealous! My dream destination. I've seen some gorgeous shots of Thai resorts at 5 Minute Getaway and a while back at Lovely Listing (features hotels sometimes), but I'm not sure I could enjoy myself if I had to willfully ignore the poverty on the way to the resort. Seeing Angkor Wat would be neat, but I'm not sure there's *any* tourism in Cambodia. Been to the Taj Mahal? Did you know there may have been an exact duplicate - in black marble! - originally planned for the other side of the river? The current one is an earthly representation of the Muslim conception of Paradise. I think the black one would have represented the after life equivalent, but it was never built. So... details... what've ya seen?
Whew! That was quite an answer! Glad to hear you've got the meds sorted, Emerald. As far as taste in beer is concerned, I don't like most of Dutch, German or Italian styles I've tried - but a pint of Guinness (especially if pulled in Ireland) or Belgian brews like Duvel or Affligem are pure nectar! You asked about travel. A fair bit, I guess: mainly southeast Asia & the south Pacific, but also the UK and northern European countries across into Russian Federation. But I've never visited Africa or South America.
Been keeping my chin up for more than 2 decades! Had the initial clinical episode in the late 80s and have never been quite as good since, as I was before it. I'm good most of the time, thanks to the meds, and only now and then have a downturn, which are always less dramatic than the first one. I've been told that's the way it happens for some folks, while most others get past the initial episode and simply never have another. Those are the ones who can take meds for a relatively brief time (6-12 mos) and then don't need them again. For those of us who never quite return to our original selves, though, long term meds are a life-saver. (Literally for some, but I never went there, thank goodness.) I do miss my beer, though. I doubt what I like is what a non-American would call beer, though. I was in Italy before the depression started and spent a couple weeks just trying to find a beer I could stand. Compared to American beers, a lot of European beers are strong and quite bitter. I *thought* I'd found one in Florence, and was half-way through the 2nd one before it started to not agree with me. Next day we were *supposed* to climb to the top of the Cathedral dome. I got to the base of it, looked over the rail, and had to fight the need to throw up. That woulda been on the altar and/or unsuspecting fellow tourists! Needless to say, I didn't make it to the top of the dome. Luckily I didn't have the same problem at St. Peter's in Rome - what an incredible view! Ever done any traveling, other than from Down Under to the States?
Sadly, I can't drink. Between food allergies and anti-depressants I almost never drink more than a couple sips of anything, usually belonging to someone else. In Lawrence, where I went to university, there's an awesome brewery and restaurant combo, the Free State Brewery. (That's one of our state's nicknames from before the Civil War.) There's one I know of in the Old Town section of Wichita, too (River City?), but also know it from the restaurant perspective. Not sure where else, as there's not a lot of reason to go to a lot of places around the state. I do know there's a thriving wine industry here, with tons of folks getting into raising grapes. My husband's sister and brother-in-law brought in several *thousand* pounds last year! They sold a lot to other vintners and used a lot for their own creations. Funny thing... even if I could drink, I wouldn't drink wine. Just never could understand the appeal. Beer though.... Mmm... beeeeer!
Hey, was it MY fault the gal was standing in front of a map of Wisconsin? NO! Is it MY fault Wisconsin is b-o-o-o-ring? NO! (Just like it's not my fault Kansas, where I live is b-o-o-o-ring.) And was it MY fault the gal was doing a wicked Nancy Drew impersonation? NO! What was I supposed to do? Just *ignore* a blank image that was just begging to be captioned? NO! (OK, you do realize I'm not really shouting and this is all just good sarcastic fun... right? Right?!)
I'm not really sure if it appeared elsewhere, Emerald. Truth be told, I don't keep up very faithfully with where my lols appear - usually cheezpeeps have to tell me that one of my posts made the homepage. Re the bastards at your hubby's co. - it reminded me of a line in an old song by Tarkio called 'Neapolitan Bridesmaid': 'Albert Camus said living is anguish / but don't dare let those bastards carry you down.'
Congrats on the Animal FP, DJ. (Your Boss). Was it featured elsewhere earlier? I know I faved it several days ago at least, but I don't recall if it was on my DB or at another site. Either way, it was the perfect coming home from work present for my hubby, who has some utterly clueless bastards in charge at his company. But then, who doesn't?
