Hi, how are you? I just checked my LOL's and all their ratings/votes are GONE, ZERO votes. I wrote to the LOL people and told them. Are all of your LOL's including your oldest LOL's, do they still have their ratings? I told LOL that I spent TONS and TONS of time going through my friends LOL's and voting on them FOR NOTHING? Thx. Joan
Emkitteh, I wanted to add that I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. I lost both of my cats last year, and it was much harder for me than some previous losses. (I'm in my 50s, and I've had cats throughout my life.) Because of some personal circumstances, I can't get another cat right now. But maybe you and your cat will feel like getting a new one soon? I hope so. Give your cat a big hug from me.
Hi Emkitteh: It took a month for my LOL to turn up on the front page. Also, some LOLs instantly go into the voting system (I once had a picture “favourited” minutes after submitting it). But it can also take few days– I assume because there are a lot more submissions on weekends, etc. I used to put a huge value on whether I was being favourited because you almost never see your own LOL go by in the voting; statistically, the odds are against it. So when an LOL of mine was favourited, I felt some impact – it made it feel real that it was being seen. But at one point I fell into thinking that if no one favourited an LOL I made, it must be a bad one. Luckily I actually saw an LOL of mine go by one night when I was voting, and though no one ever made it a favourite, it had a very high number of positive votes attached. So I think “favouritings” are great fun, but they don’t really reflect how well your stuff is going over. In the end, you have to do it just for the pleasure of it.
Hi Emkitteh: I once wrote to the cheezburger staff asking how the front pagers are chosen. The traffic on this site is over a million hits a month and they get tens of thousands of submissions a week. They are all put into rotation for voting, and after each one has been seen a certain number of times (they didn't tell me how many) the ones with the highest "win" numbers are considered for the front page. After that it's just up to the taste and whim of the administrator. So in the end, it's all just luck. I was stunned to see one of my own on the FP, as I didn't think it was terribly funny. But it made me very happy, as I made that LOL as a tribute to my own little black cat who passed away.
