Hate to break it to you, pard, but the winters here are getting milder and milder. It still gets cold as all-get-out but we haven't had a good blizzard in forever, it seems. I have yet to fire a Ruger I didn't just love. I hear you on all the plastic, though - WTH?? Lighter is not always a good thing. :/ When I was gushing over Pop's new acquisition he gave me a twisty little smile and said, "Well, I'm old so don't go buy one, you'll get this one soon enough." I punched him on the arm for that one. ;o) I'm rather in agreement with you about John Browning. His designs have been tweaked but not necessarily improved. *sigh* Hope Tuesday's being good to you! *hugs*

Oh, boy! So you're going to move out west? SD is a concealed carry state, pretty lenient laws...and a very low incidence of firearms violence. Go fig. It's pretty simple: out here, you draw on someone there's about a 99% chance they're gonna shoot back. ;o) Which reminds me, I need to renew my permit. Oh, and my Dad just bought himself a present: the new Ruger Blackhawk Convertible Revolver .45 Colt & .45 AC - I have the BIGGEST envy!! Here's hoping you have a wonderful day! *hugs*

Well. Welcome to the "BETA Bites Club." A lot of peeps are very unhappy about the changes. We've already seen some changes and improvements; let's all hope there are more to come. I'm very sorry to hear you're faced with the same situation I found myself in when I left the hell-job. Being over-worked and under-appreciated is a lousy thing. Myself, I could've handled the stress (one person doing the work of three) but when the managers started threatening me with write-ups because the work wasn't getting done fast enough to suit them...NO. I wish you luck on the hunt. I had two interviews yesterday (part-time retail) and have another in a couple hours. This one's part-time, too, but I really rather want it and plan to hit it out of the park. :o) Yes, you open a gun shop and I'll come and be your business manager. I love red tape and regulations. ;o) *hugs*

Why, yes, I have been known to corral Trudy into a safe little corner of her own now and then. ;o) You need not be her "friend" to caption her photos but she sent you a request anyway. Can't wait to hear what you have to say. Been missing our chats - hope all's good with you. *hugs*

I gues someone in RI is going to have the best Valentine's Day EVAR. Okay, so I don't have $millions$ but I do have JA and good friends and that's worth everything. :o)

There's a lot of people yearning for that jackpot; I've twice been in a house struck by lightning so who knows, my odds may be better than usual! I have a job interview Tuesday, one I really want, so a little bit o' beems and prayers would not come amiss at this time. :o)

Histy congrats, friend o' mine - that one really did make me LOL! Here's hoping all's good with you. *hugs*

Chuck, I am so sorry for your loss. I know we all like to tell ourselves that they're in a better place and they're with loved ones who've gone on before...but nothing quite fills that empty ache, does it? Peace to you, and may time take you swiftly to that place where memories bring only smiles. *hugs*

I don't know if I've ever told you this before - and if I have then it bears repeating: you're one of the good ones, Chuck. Thank you for being my friend.

You're welcome! I wish that was my piece; alas, we are armsless right now and shall continue to be so until the financial situation improves. I even had to sell my beloved Norinco SKS. I took off and kept the bayonet, however, so I can put it on the next one. Can't wait to see the finished ink! Tattoos are one of the hard lessons, aren't they? I'm eventually going to have have laser treatments to fix a couple that look like crap; the guy who did them couldn't color inside the lines - and now owns the area's oldest shop. *sigh* Things are good - the job hunt continues and money's tight but little miracles keep happening and life is good!

I made this and thought of you: http://cheezburger.com/View/5539122176 Hope all's well in your world. *hugs*

You're right - smoking is both evil and stupid. *drags deeply & exhales* *grins sheepishly* The investigative part of my old job is what I miss the most. Lots of research for documents...and tracking down stuff during Chapter 13 cramdown audits? Loooooved it. The analytical part of my had joygasms every day. Too bad they had to keep dumping all the other stuff on me. I'm good but I'm not three-clerks-worth-of-work-and-keep-everything-totally-current good. I'm so glad to hear you're happy at work. A suck job seems to touch every part of your life. :o)

Good to hear you're giving yourself a mental health day! I'm okay. Getting over the flu and still looking for work but trying to be the best me I can be all the while. How's by you?

By Winnie-Wonka on Oct 21, 2011 at 8:38 AM

I see what you did there. HI! :o)

By Winnie-Wonka on Aug 20, 2011 at 8:23 AM

No, not at all! I got your intended thought loud and clear. You know me, though...don't like stepping on toes by accident. :o)

By Winnie-Wonka on Aug 19, 2011 at 9:09 PM

What? No shiny candy coating on the bitter filling? I hope I didn't steal your thunder with that - I really did want to give you credit! Oh, and histy congrats! :o)

By Winnie-Wonka on Aug 19, 2011 at 6:34 PM

Just for you, my friend - I would've given you full credit but didn't know how. http://cheezburger.com/Winnie-Wonka/lolz/View/5108046848

"She had the interpersonal skills of an ebola virus." THANK YOU for the best laugh I've had in a while! This is gonna be short - too much going on - but wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and your friendship. You rock!! *hugs*

Okay, you make a good point about taking an ax along with you! Yep, I have the pic and it's a good-looking piece, but you're right in saying it needs some fine tuning. It's going to be spiffy once it's finished! The weirdest thing happened Thursday. As you may or may not know, JA had a five-day hospital stay in January. (He's fine.) Insurance didn't cover everything and we weren't paying fast enough to suit the hospital so we were sent to collections. I called to set up payment arrangements and ended up with my rep asking me to submit an online employment application. The interview is Monday morning but from the sounds of it I've already got the job. Not my dream job - collecting unsecured debt is always a tough row to how - but I've done it before and was good at it. (I used to be the collections manager for a smaller local cable company.) I need work so this is a blessing right out of the blue! I hear ya on the "bad job" thing. I've had a couple, the last one being the worst. I don't mind stress and hard work. I do my best work under pressure but even I have my limits. It didn't help that my boss will throw ANYONE under the bus to make herself look good. The day I gave notice she told me I was one of the best clerks she'd ever had and asked what she could do to make me stay. She really didn't like it when I told her she needed to stop treating her clerks like red-headed step-children. *chuckle* I'm kind of a gun geek, too. Had to sell them off some time ago and haven't gotten any since. I've even let my concealed carry license expire. I really miss my Rossi .38 with the Pachmayr grip - had one with a rosewood grip as well but didn't enjoy it as much; since I prefer to use a heavier load it bruised my hand every time I fired it, especially in classic Baker stance. OUCH! Don't ask how hard I cried when the P90 had to go. :( We still have our Norinco SKS and a .380 made by a now-defunct company called Lorcin. I hate that little thing - don't trust it it all because it'll misfire if you look at it the wrong way. (OK, so how badly did I just freak out a whole bunch of peeps EDing this convo...? *lol*) Hope you're having a wonderful Caturday! *hugs*

By Winnie-Wonka on Aug 7, 2011 at 7:44 AM

Good to hear you're doing okay. I remember EDing about the job and then, being me, promptly forgot it...of course, I was still in the hell-hole and JA had a serious illness in January so maybe I can be forgiven...? I had to leave the job - we had another clerk walk out and they dumped all her work on me and then spent a lot of time chewing on me because everything wasn't getting finished fast enough. I spent my lunch hours crying in my car and by the time I got home I was a shambling replicant of the person I'd used to be. The budget sucks and it's scary to be without insurance but since I don't have that massive stress any longer I don't *need* the insurance as much! Wow, your shoulder remains unfinished? You need to show up at the door with an ax. ;o) Is the tat industry regulated in your state? May be time to contact the BBB, or even threaten small claims action. Or - and this sux - bite the bullet and find another artist willing to finish it. (Tat artists tend to not like stepping on another's work.) I got my last one on my birthday - my left hand is now attached to my arm by big ol' Frankenstein stitches, the idea being that my "normal" hand doesn't really belong to me. (It'll make more sense once the left arm is completely sleeved.) Ain't we special? We gotta keep more in touch, bud. You hang in there and keep being your wonderful self, k? *hugs*
