Wow, I guess. By law in this blue-nosed country, spirits can't be more than 40%. I do have a sampler marked for export only of Canadian Club whiskey that's 50%. But you won't see that in any bottle store. This is what scares imbibers of marijuana from wanting it to become legal. The cops would be off your case, but they fear that the gov't would demand that it be of lower quality than what is available now. I dunno. I think the percentage restriction was probably backed by the distillers - they could sell more because it takes longer for people to have had enough.
Well, I noticed that there was an unusually high incidence of white cars in Canberra - though when I visited there, it was rather chilly (maybe about 12 or 13 C). Here, it's block heaters. People new to this kind of climate think we all got electric cars because they see 'em all plugged in. :) (Keeps the fluids from freezing so you can start the thing).
Oh, goodness, I can imagine! That's too much of a temp difference. I had a hard enough time when I visited your fair country; when I got on the plane, it was, well, not TOO bad, maybe between -5 and -10. I qwa sdressed up in nice clothes, not TOO warmly dressed, but I did have my winter coat with me .. and planes aren't all that warm. Anyway, I got off the plane in Sydney around noon, I thought I was going to melt. My friend was looking at the coat and sweater I was carrying like they were dead aliens or something. I had to take my blazer off almost immediately. January, you see. I was very thankful that air conditioners seem to be standard equipment in your cars. :)

:) Net you ran out really quick! I filled in one day for a friend at a freezer plant; she could take the day off if she could find anyone to fill in for her. This was a place where they would store commercial frozen foods (for grocery stores and McDonald's and the like) and most of the plant was at a constant -20. It was the middle of winter in Toronto (which has a better climate than where I'm currently at) and it was a relief to go outside for break because it was warmer (maybe -5). Since then I've experienced month-long stretches at -40 - the first time I did, everyone around me was remarking at how it was so nice to have warmed up to -20, and I was surprised I could feel the difference. Man, winter sucks. :P
