=O.O= BOOK CLUB BULLETIN =O.O= As you’ve probably noticed, there have been some important developments. - 1 - There’s now a special profile for the book club # http://app.cheezburger.com/JeffCatsBookClub #. It’s managed by Chris10a, SylviaG and myself. Starting now, please send your submissions to that profile. If you’re not friends with the profile yet, just send a friend request! - 2 - The profile offers some major advantages: a) Categories which work like shelves in a library. You’ll find them in the “Favorites” of the profile. b) Sharing the library work. There are now 600 (!!!) submissions and counting, and that’s simply too much for any single cat to handle. Thanks to Chris and Sylvia for their invaluable halp! c) Managing submissions and friend requests becomes a lot easier when kept separate from my purrsonal profile. - 3 - In case you haven’t seen your purrsonal membership card yet, you’ll find it here: # http://thebookclubmembers.cheezburger.com/ #. The cards are also collected in the category “J.C.B.C. General Assembly” of the new profile. RedRobin’s card (no. 50) is the last one of that sort, though. From now on, cards for new members will be issued by the book club profile. - 4 - The cheezburger site for the book club # http://thebookclub.cheezburger.com/ # is on hold for now. Like I said, impossible to manage on my own. It will be continued in some form or other, and there will be additional sites managed by the new profile. You’ll be informed about developments. - 5 - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: The creativity and the humor of the submissions are just incredible! There are 35 official members and close to 200 submissions so far… Your enthusiasm and all the wonderful literary lols are just overwhelming - in the best sense of the word. I didn’t expect anything like this when I decided to go public with the book club. Please understand that I can’t tell every single purrson just how much I love their submissions. There are so many, and they’re all so great and so inspired and so funny… YOU ROCK!!! +++ 2) Membership cards: I’ve finished most of the membership cards today. Well, the short version is: Ur grandpa got it absolutely right, and there rly isn't anything to add!!! What I don't understand is, why do so many peeps NOT understand this?! It drives me insane and it depresses me, srsly! It's such a simple concept, so easy to follow and the benefits are just self-evident... All that progress and technology and wealth and spaceflight and 21st century stuff, but in the basics department, we got about 2000 yrs of catching up to do... Strange people, those "humans" :-)
Oh thx so much for ur message! I was afraid to start with the republicans, because that wud has been a VERY long jump from Ceiling Cat if u kno whut I mean. But I totally agree: The catholic church, the right wing reps, those tea party nuts, and hardcore conservatives all around the world - they all talk about christianity and Jesus and blah blah blah, but what they want and what they do is most of the time the exact opposite. Racism, sexism, religious frenzy and talk about war is all I get from that direction. Like I said, I'm an atheist to the core. But I read the bible, my motive was kind of "know ur enemy", because if I'm against something I at least wanna kno exactly WHAT I'm against. And the old testament is a thousand pages of insane hateful gibberish if u ask me. But the new testament rly opened my eyes! I kno that Jesus is no moar real than Ceiling Cat. But the messages in that buk are universally true and just... good! That's why I rly understand u when u say that a real Church of Ceiling Cat wud be great. There are some values and ideas in there that seem all but forgotten today. And that's why those bible bashers piss me off so much, because they abuse the N.T. and what we think of as Jesus's message and turn it around 180 degrees...
I said what I did in a slightly tongue-in-cheek intention, since I am also atheist. ;-) So was my grandfather, and he told me that if everybody followed the Golden Rule, the world would be a much better place. There's a rather contentious thread on a forum I belong to, on whether or not Republicans would vote for Jesus. Sad to say I rather doubt it, since what fundamentalist Republicans tend to believe and what Jesus preached appear to be totally opposite in practice.
Amen!!! I actually read the Lolcat Bible, it's right here in my book shelf, can u believe it. It's in fact more or less the New Testament in Lolspeak, and so it makes some very good points. Like loving one another, giving freely, pacifism, forgiveness, all the things that we think of as "decent human behavior". It's all there, always has been! But I'm an atheist to the bone nonetheless. I don't need any church or whatever in order to be like that. I adhere to these principles because I'd like to think of myself as a decent human being, and that's it! Sorry for getting all purrlosophical at you without warning. I just wanted to explain what I meant when I connected Ceiling Cat(ism) to Socialism... I just think they're very similar, and if Ceiling Cat (or Jesus) were real and alive today, I'm sure they'd be called Commies
Somebody should start a real-life Church of Ceiling Cat. It sounds much kinder than anything humans have been doing! :o)
