When your lol makes it to the voting page (it can take a while, but mine usually get there in about a day), whoever's browsing it has a chance to see it there and favorite it, as well as vote on it. In addition, your friends will get a notice on their updates area that you've created a new lol when you create it, but I think in your case it was the voting page that did it. :) Did your lol get on the "upcoming" part of the site? That'll do it too.
