I totally agree, I just enjoy eating. At 63 and with my past medicalhistory, I take the pleasures eveywhere (within reason) I can cuz I don't know how long I will be here :) We do eat a lot of vegies and this summer we ate a lot form our greenhouse which is totally organi andin the winter I do try to get organic vegies if they are not too expensive. Always get organic dairy produts and eggs.
At least the US and many Euro countries are light years ahead of much of the world when it comes to vauing animal companions, spay, neuter, TNR, rescue organizations (and there are good ones). But the prosperity of a country and its citizens are directly related to animal welfae. When you and your fdamily do;t have enough to eat, impossible to worry about "pet." But there is always, always rooms for improvement. I love Best Friends motto: "Save them all." :)
Still getting familiar with the area here (moved her about a year ago to be closer to the gkids) . We've been donating big bags of cat food to the Central OR Humane Soceity every time we got to Costco. But it is not ano kill organization. They do have a really nice, newer facility with big indoor and outdoor enclosures. Our vet gave us the name of a no kill rescue organiation around here that she said is very good so need to check that out and see about the sponsor thing vis-a-vis the Humane Society here. MIL had adoped 2 cts form the HS, one of whom we have unfortuantely as it was not a good fit. But we love Sonny so am glad we readopted him (aside form the fact we would neer have taken him back to the HS). The next one we worked with the HS to make sure she could only adopt an older, mellow cat. MIL is sneaky (she lives in assisted living) and got someone to take her to the HS while we were on vacation :) They called us soewhere in east Cali and made her wait until I could apprise them of the situation. Sweetie Pie was the only one they woud let her adopt and thank CC she is a perfect fit and MIL loves her.
Yeah, I grew up memorizing the planets and their order :) I do know there are bad rescue organizations out there, some because they just don't have the expertise to do it and overreach and some like you said, are not in it to truly save animals (both domestic and wild) . We have volunteered at Best Friends in Kanab, UT several times and they still have some kittehs left (out of 700) from a massive cat hoarding operation several years ago that started out as a rescue organizaton. Best Friends resuced all of them (or as many as cold be saved) A quote: Mead, legal counsel for Best Friends Animal Society, was headed back to Pahrump, a small town 60 miles west of Las Vegas best known for its legal brothels, casinos and UFO sightings. There, a Best Friends rescue team was tending to around 700 cats that Nye County animal control had taken possession of. The cats belonged to a troubled nonprofit organization called FLOCK (For the Love of Cats and Kittens). Like most counties and municipalities, Nye County didn’t have the money, the staff or the space to care for such a large group of felines, so they turned to Best Friends for help." DOnlt know if you saw this bu it gave me warmy and fuzzy :) http://cheezburger.com/8337464832 But back to the sponsor thing, how does it work?
LOL on Pluto! I heard that on the news the other day. I always thought Pluto got the shaft. Harvard and the Smithsonian are arguing it should be reinstated. Despite space at the speed of light, it likely will take a few more years for this debate to drag and drone on :) I am trying to follow your and ani's convo. I have your rescue LOLS. What is the sponsoring thing?
No, no organization has a right to kill on that large a scale. Let's go get cats & kill them. I believe in the power of YouTube. Let's think about it. Give me some suggestions. I make a scathing video to post.
I may have a better idea. Let's stop depressing our peep friends with all the sad cats. How about I make a video to post to YouTube exposing this horrid organization? Put all kinds of tags on it, get some publicity going. We could even write to the city counsel about dismantling the place. Neuter & release is a proven method of controlling strays. The same money could be used for that. Any cats released by owners could be put up for adoption.
what is the point of an organization rounding up cats & killing them. Neuter & release. Or just leave the cats out there, let them fend for themselves. They have a better chance. whats the point of a crappy organization like that? Do they hate cats?
I saw the information, before. Glad you included it. I hope there are some peeps who have extra resources to sponsor a cat. I don't, at present. I appreciate that you are spreading the word about these cats. Please always feel free to send links to AR. I will fave them. Annie
It's too sad, darlin'. I have discovered a horrid little trailer park, with a hundred of feral cats running around, scrounging for food. I'm trying to decide what to do about all those little guys. It's easier, to remain in ignorance. Once you see it, it grabs your psyche, & won't let you rest...
