By hegeofnorway on Jul 22, 2009 at 9:58 AM

Life in Bulgaria is relaxing. We swim, read, eat, drink and sleep. Just what the doctor ordered. I'll find some more amusing facts from the norse mythology when I come home if you're still interested.

We will be staying in a nice small hotel owned by the family of one of my daughters friends. We were there last year, nice and relaxing.

i see so the water fixes the roots the snake damages. yeah he sounds like a mean dude. so you said your going to bulgaria huh? well i wish i could go places too, but with school i dont get to go far. i was in london for a week once... i dont know much about bulgaria, however one kid that goes to school with me actually has family there and can speak it.

Yes, it's sort of magic water, that's why it is guarded. And the tree is the tree of life and the world and has a healing power in itself. The snake feeds on dead bodies, it's not a nice snake. Nid means jealousy or hateful feelings, hogg means to sting.

it is fun to learn new things, thats why its cool your explaining all of the whole norse thing. uhh so the snake can chew the roots all he wants but if they get watered then the tree never dies?

By hegeofnorway on Jul 13, 2009 at 2:38 PM

I think the water is from one of the three wells, one under each root. One of the wells has water that gives you wisdom, and the women guarding it pour the water where the snake has bitten. The water prevents the roots from rotting. I know nothing about the Chicago area, will google now. It's always fun to learn something new.

cool that norway is so nice, its summer here too, in chicago (kinda near there but thats the easiest way to describe where i am.) not in school for a while so i have lots of time on my hands lol

By Ratatosk on Jul 13, 2009 at 7:49 AM

i see thats pretty intense, but the part i dont get is how pouring water on the tree's roots will keep the tree from dying, does the snake not like water or something?

By hegeofnorway on Jul 10, 2009 at 7:57 AM

No, it doesn't make too much sense. Ginnungagap is the big dark ravine betveen the cold dark and the warm light. All life is created from the meeting between them. And if the snake manages to destroy the tree Yggdrasil the world will go under. The world is built up around and in the tree.

By Ratatosk on Jul 10, 2009 at 7:18 AM

i see, so the snake is evil then, because killing the tree would be bad for everyone. hmm the names from the game really dont make any sense compared to the norse who they come from. i mean ratatosk was this dude who protects the ginnungegap, aplace that connects the regular world to the demonic realm. i dont know if that made any sence but it may have

Hi. Norway is ok, it's summer here and the days are long. We don't have midnight sun here, but very short nights. Did you know that Ratatosk runs between the eagle Vidofnir who lives in the tree top and the snake Nidhogg who lives under the tree Yggdrasil. Nidhogg tries to gnaw off the tree roots to kill the tree. The nornes (wise women) pour water on the roots and prevent the tree from dying. Ratatosk brings gossip and spitful words between the eagle and the snake.

so how is norway? also, do you know any other fun things about ratatosk and his exploits on the giant tree yggdrasil?

By Ratatosk on Jul 6, 2009 at 3:51 PM

hmm it is, i only know a little of the old norse involving ratatosk. i understand that picture you sent, its funny. because ratatosk was the the messenger of the giant tree yggdrasil. the only reason i know this is because a lot of names from a game i played used a lot of old norse. there is a charachter called ratatosk, hes the guy who my avatar is. also one named yggdrasil and a dungeon called gladsheim.

By hegeofnorway on Jul 6, 2009 at 10:47 AM

I know our old religion quite well. So how is life in Ginnungagap? Must be dark and lonely, I guess.

By Ratatosk on Jul 4, 2009 at 2:14 PM

hey, uhh no i am not norse, i am surprised that you noticed that ratatosk was the norse squirrel.
