I can just imagine how fun and crazy, not to mention loud, those home games are. And how expensive!! Nice that Bryan can get back to fishing and you both have started finally taking things easier and spending even more time with family stuff. You're right, FIL isn't getting better, which brings up a whole new set of problems. They won't be able to keep him where he is now because there's a waiting list of over 40 people for beds in their intensive care area, so the search is on to find somewhere he'll be able to go when Medicare decides PT isn't working and cuts off the funds for it. They'll need to be ready to move him even tho nobody has any idea when that time will come. Very tricky there and so far they haven't had any luck. Did you get all of your bulbs in? Yeah, haven't seen BD here all day - you KNOW he's busy!! Oh hey I see you got another FP! YAY and congratzies!!!
Ohai, Sylvia! Once again I've been away from ICHC for a few days. I did finish up The Borgias but then saw the complete Tudors series is also on through next Monday. I have Season 1 on commercial disc, but the series was on before we had a disc recorder, so I'm getting 2-4. And yes, both sets of rulers were nasty bits of work, especially to their women. It's not just historical fiction, either, that their contemporaries were just as ambitious and ruthless as the Borgias themselves. There was a constant flux of who held prominence among the city states and small principalities in Italy and Germany and between the larger nations in Western Europe. Alliances changed and challenges to gain more power were frequent. The grudge thing was one reason; to this day the cities of Pisa and Florence have a certain enmity (usually constrained to the soccer field or the accompanying riots...) because they fought several wars... in the Middle Ages! Even within cities, opposing families were often "at war" with each other. There's an excellent book, April Blood, about the famed Pazzi Conspiracy, in which one Florentine family, allied with the Pope and the Duke of Urbino, attempted to assassinate Lorenzo "the Magnificent" and his brother Guiliano de Medici **during Mass in the Cathedral of Florence**!! They did actually kill Guiliano, but Lorenzo escaped. The aftermath of retribution against multiple families was immense. It doesn't help people today better understand it when the over-hyped propaganda of sworn enemies about each other is what's survived. From Julius Caesar dissing the Celts to much of Shakespeare having a propaganda slant, what "historical" accounts we have always have to be taken with a grain of salt. The same attitudes of getting and keeping power and retribution for one's enemies persist in some cultures, like Russia, as well in tribally based societies like those in many Middle Eastern countries. It was the case in Ireland, too for centuries, let alone Germany and Italy, where nationhood has only come to pass in the last 150 years. BTW, there's a short article at Wikipedia about The Borgias series, with a list of changes made to the historical record for dramatic reasons. I'm glad I read it first, because it really helped me keep in mind how much of the series is fictionalized. That doesn't mean it departs from the "spirit" of the era or major players, though. ++ More on other developments later. :)
Oh, that makes sense. I'm glad it isn't a borkage after all. Thanks for faving the LOL. Love your new avatar! I thought about changing to my alma mater for football season, but I'm going to stick with my departed kittehs. Enjoy the game tonight (well, this evening your time). I won't get to see it--must get to bed. I had stupid leg cramps last night and didn't get much sleep. Tonight I will take a muscle relaxer and get some rest. I'll check the score in the morning.
thanks, my sweet Syl! I am going to get into Black Friday for just a little while this afternoon. Was gone all day yesterday for a dentist appointment, and you know how long it takes me to get back and forth from there. I'm just got home a little bit ago from food shopping, but I saw some messages I need to answer so I will at least get that much accomplished ;-)
New bulbs every year? Must cost you a small fortune! Do you never get bulbs that you can let grow wild? (just leave i the ground after flowering and they'll come up year after year before they give up)
