You would have a most "interesting" viewing of the first episode of Season 4 if you don't see the finale to 3. The Dowager is my second favorite character.
By Sylviag on Apr 7, 2014 at 7:48 PM
Uh oh, that must have been on the very last disc. Bryan said that was just Special Features, but now that I look at it, it says "Includes" Special Features." We will have to watch it with gritted teeth LOL My favorite character is the Dowager, partly because I am a big fan of Maggie Smith. She is so wonderfully manipulative :) But Mrs. Hughes is a close second.

It was a pretty weekend with lots of sun before the deluge today. I'm sorry about the colds but am glad you were able to get so much done on the greenhouse. Are you sure you saw the finale of Season 3 of DA? I was so I was so mad about what happens in the finale that I almost didn't watch Season 4. If I hadn't been so hooked on the show and such a fan of Mrs. Hughes, my DA watching would be history for sure. I haven't been reading about Season 5 either. I just checked (can't trust my memory these days), and there are eight episodes of Season 3. You need to see that eighth one before you watch Season 4.

Hope your weekend was nie. So one more in 2015. Someday you will have a summer again :) Thanks on May Day. I find I mostly do theme LOLs anymore. Sometimes I feel otherwise creative and will try some others again but they don't go far :) We did get all of the greenhouse done except for the roof panels on Sat. But we both had our colds relapse so we spent yesterday watching all 7 episodes of the 3d season of Downton Abbey and ate popcorn :) A marathon treat. Was generally upbeat except of course for darling Sybil dying :( I was so afraid John Bates would get killed in prison so we were pleasantly surprised when he was freed and could rejoin Anna. I will have to get Season 4 now. I know Season 5 is ongoing. I've been careful not to read anything about it if I can avoid it. Umm, can't remember now if you follow the series or not, so sorry if I went on and on :)

I'm glad everyone had a great time. The comix is great! I think the computer is pretty much straight now. The knee replacement is not the end of things. The second hip will be replaced in 2015. If I survive, I hope that will be the end of surgeries and I can have a summer again in 2016. The May Day comix is a hoot! I hope MIL and the canaries are doing fine and that greenhouse work is going well. Brenda

Snow leopards are so beautiful. I think trip wire camera is the only way to get pics of them as they are so elusive.

Is the puter staying dialed in? We managed to keep our noses clean and caused no local scandals :) We had a great visit and kept them busy. SInce we're pretty new here ourelves it was interesting showing people around when we're still learning where anything is at. So it really was fun to take them to downtown Bend as we had not spent much time there ourselves. plaidcts grew up arounf here on a ranch so really knows way more about this area than we do. Oh man, I forgot about hubs' other knee replacement this summer. Hopefully this is the last major thing we both have to go through. New textbooks - aaack! How often do they change them? That would be a lot of work as you have to be totally up to speed on them before next school yer.
By cataff on Mar 31, 2014 at 5:34 PM
I hope PC and bgcmeowrr have safely arrived now. Tell them "Hi" from me, please. I hope all of you have a great visit! Yes, I said all the words I learned hanging out in a garage as a kid and did everything but stand on my head when the computer went down, but what really set me off was when I booted from my image and it went down too. Now, that's NOT supposed to happen. LOL! I think I'm pretty much straight now, but the fear is still in my brain. I've been making all sorts of backups all over the place and still have the XP machine running. I guess it's time to cut the cord and try turning it off again and just calm down. The faculty finishes June 9, has to put in four days in July, and starts the first week in August. With the knee replacement June 16, there won't be much of a summer at all. I will be spending every second I'm not doing nursing, maid, and personal shopping duties making all new units and tests and notes for the new textbooks we will be using. I'm actually dreading summer, and that's not good. You three behave yourselves. I don't want to see any familiar names in any headlines from Oregon!
By Sylviag on Mar 31, 2014 at 5:07 PM
Are you almost recovered with the puter? I hope so as I know that was maddening and I bet more than a few choice words were said :) bgcmeowrr and plaidcats coming in today to visit for a couple days They had to go over the pass and I hope that wasnt bad. I kinda expected them by now so of course I will worry :) She didn't answer her cell phone, plaidcats grew up here and lived here many years so will be fun to take her around places she liked. Have a good rest of the week When does school let out for the summer?

I used to keep folders and such, but shoveling is easier.
By Sylviag on Mar 30, 2014 at 2:33 PM
I had so much crap going on when I worked. My desk was nominally organized neatly in elebenty dozen folders all over the desk. So it looked good but I still couldn't find which foder I needed at any given time LOL
By cataff on Mar 30, 2014 at 2:16 PM
Well, uhhh, yeah. It pretty much does look like this most of the time. I'm too embarrassed to take a picture of my actual desk. LOL
By Sylviag on Mar 30, 2014 at 11:59 AM
Is that what your desk looks like ROFL

I'm glad your new computer is all set up and going and doesn't take up much room. It does take a long time to transfer all the files, especially photos. I'm still putting things back, but I'll get there. It has been a rough week, and I'm glad it's over. It's going to take a while to get over the upset of having my image borked too. I do the right thing and still get burned. Rats! I can't use the cloud because the fastest speed we can get here isn't fast enough to work with it. I prefer the image anyway (when it's not corrupted) because it will put back the operating system and everything that was on the hard drive--no reloading programs. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

What a nightmare for you. I hope not a lot of data was lost :( BD said that Dell did overnight stuff you needed and help you. Hope it all gets squared away soon. Our new one is all up and running today but I did not trust myself to do it so an IT guy was here to set it all up and transfer the files. All went well and everything transferred over that I wanted. Took quite awhile and he went to lunch and ran errands so he didn't charge me for him just sitting around. He reuploaded my Norton and Word. I just need to hook back up with my off data storage, JustCloud. Love just having a couple of cords instead of that tangled mess we had. Just the PC itself and the speaker cords. The desk cubby where the tower was I can now use for files that I need to reference frequently.
By cataff on Mar 28, 2014 at 2:54 AM
Thank you for the commiseration, Syl. This has been a nightmare, and it is going to be a while before I get everything back as it was. Well, actually it won't all be back. Some things are lost but fortunately not many. I came as close to having an actual fit as I ever have in my life when I went to the boot options and told the computer to boot from my image, and it was borked too. I don't know what the odds are that I would have made it after the bad update was there, but they have to astronomical. It's too bad I don't beat those kinds of odds when it would be a good thing. Thank you for looking out for me on CATT too. I haven't had time to get back there yet. Have a good weekend.
By Sylviag on Mar 25, 2014 at 8:11 AM
If I get anything extra you need at CATT I;ll be sure to pass it on to you.
By Sylviag on Mar 25, 2014 at 8:10 AM
Aaaack - the new puter got borked already after all the work you did to get stuff transferred! Rats and double rats. Hope to see you back on soon.

Hope there's good weather for the Gkids' spring break. I don't think computers rot in the box, so it will be waiting for you after the carpeting is done. I've retired my old one and hope I haven't forgotten any files. So far, so good. Have a good week and may the carpeting go well and quickly.
By Sylviag on Mar 23, 2014 at 9:39 AM
Thanks! Saw the comment this morning and replied but it is in moderation. Gkids are on Spring Break this next week and son is very much looking forward to that. He's got some fun stuff planned for them. Luckily he and a friend own a construciton business so have some flxibility in taking time off. All the puter stuff is still in boxes I must confess. We are getting new carpeting and flooring (the carpeting here I think dates back to when the house was built in 2000 and it is awful). We got a bid we like and we will finalize it today before we go play disc golf and hopefully get firm scheduling dates. So we figured just work with the old puter for now so we don;t hook up the new one and thenhave to take it all apart for the flooring. Have you got yours all the way you want it now? So glad to see MamaW back again. I was gettin prett worried. Some of thes infections going around now can be relaly hard to shake and many are resistant to most antibiotics.

Way to go, FU! I've left a comment on the blog, but it's still in moderation. Better late than never--been swamped and still am but am rebelling for the moment.

Ohai! Sorry for the long delay in answering . This is my first time on here since that early morning glance. I've been busy with work and with migrating my files to the new computer. I put back all my programs first and made myself comfortable with Windows 8.1, which is not the monster it has been made out to be. I rather like it actually. Today I began the file transfers. The transfer cable is wonderful, but it still takes a long time for lots of photos, songs, and videos to be processed onto the new computer. I'm waiting for photos to finish processing now. It has been about three hours so far. I may have to give up and go to bed and deal with the rest of the transfers in the morning. The files that are left won't take so long, so I hope I can unhook the old computer tomorrow and get this one all set up in its place. I do hope the printer driver a kind computer guru found for me will get it to work with 8.1. It's an old all-in-one that still does a great job, and I would hate to have to pitch it because of not having a driver. Lexmark didn't bother to update its drivers but did so for other printers as old and even older. My fingers are crossed that my two-year-old router will have no issues with 8.1. I'm very sorry to see your LOL about Linder and am very worried that it came March 10 and she hasn't been on since then. Infections can be so dangerous, especially when the doctors can't determine exactly what they are dealing with. My fingers are crossed that she will be okay and soon. Oh, I just glanced down and have seen that she sent you a message today. Whew! I'm very relieved. Hope you are catching up with everything. If you have any questions about the transfer cable when you get ready to move to your new computer, let me know.

A quick good morning to you and a wish for a good day - Yay, it's Friday :) As u saw we were off the grid for almost a week. Much needed. But I am way behind in RL and here with friends' msgs, FPs, LOLs. Hope to catch up somewhat in a couple of days.

This is the fix for downloading Win 8.1 from the Windows store: Navigate to Control Panel > Uninstall a program > View installed updates (located on the left pane) > Uninstall the Microsoft Update KB2871389 Download and re-install the update manually using the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2871389 Reboot your computer and access your Windows Store. You should be able to download the Windows 8.1 update. If it still doesn't work, you will need to clear the cache for the store. Just Google how to clear Windows Store cache. I keep a list of birthdays too. Jiskat must have removed hers before I became her friend. I'm glad you had it!
By Sylviag on Mar 4, 2014 at 11:06 PM
How hilariously ironic - love it! I think I have tried to download 8.1 on my new laptop and don't think it worked for me either. I should try again one of these days. I have always kept a birthday list so even when people drop their birth dates from their profile, I still have it on my list - they can't hie from me :). I really enoy wishing people Happy BIrthday with a "card." Spring break makes more sense as the number of missed days pile up.
By cataff on Mar 4, 2014 at 10:58 PM
Thanks. I didn't know it was Jiskat's birthday (not on her profile) until I started seeing LOLs for her. I've had my head stuck in the other monitor most of today. Yesterday I had a problem upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1. Then I saw on the news that Bill Gates had spent his first day back at Microsoft yesterday trying without success to update his office computer from 8 to 8.1. I found the solution on the Dell forum (they call it the community), and it wasn't from a Dell employee. One of the users had figured it out. It was so simple that I hadn't thought of it when I had taken a look at that item. I almost stopped and made an LOL about Gates and MS, but I refrained. I don't want to think about dealing with longer school days the rest of the school year. I would rather give up some of spring break. We may have some frozen mess Thursday night too. I hope the forecast is wrong.
By Sylviag on Mar 4, 2014 at 10:44 PM
That's a great birthday LOL for Jiskat.

I was impressed for sure. Boy, there will be a lot of make-up days for a lot of districts this year. Be bad for those that had planned a family vacation right after shool let out. Might as well enjoy your time off whikle you have it You also and a good morrow.
By cataff on Mar 4, 2014 at 10:27 PM
Glad you got the computer before you left. Dell is very swift with shipping. I hope you will enjoy your vacation. There will be plenty of time to set up the computer later. We've not been able to have school yet this week after all the frozen mess yesterday, so I've been working away setting up my new system. I hope tomorrow I can start moving my files from this machine. I still have plenty of time before April though. Have a good night.
