My mom died in 1994, but I have a wondrous mother-in-law who is my hero and my best friend (so much so that I hate telling people she's my MIL!). She'll be 84 in June, but you'd never know it! I think the cheez folks just care a lot about you, sir, so let us do so :)
Not to mention Billy! ;) Who, btw, has his own world-index...What used to bee the bigmac-index i.e. A gross index, per country, of the level of wealth...*le google* http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac_Index http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-15/ikea-billy-bookshelf-index-israel-most-expensive-france-is-cheapest.html

So you're back in the real world with a vengeance! That's a difficult thing you're attempting, switching genres - most writers stick with what they're good at or comfortable with. Some have to more or less switch personality in the process, like Ian Banks (or Ian M Banks when he writes sf!). But you should be at home in the French setting - French literature and art is your home-from-home, as I recall... Anyway, be well and above all enjoy yourself!
