When I was a kid in Michigan in the 70s and 80s we used to have real snow. Now there's a couple of inches and people freak and can't drive and complain. Why, when I was a kid . . . (omg I just totally turned into an old person!)
Well we call ourselves the "Winter Wonderland State" largely due to the lake-effect snow-drifts. Surprisingly, I found that Maine had far more severe winters than we did. It was at least -20 the entire time I was there and the snow drifts coming off the Atlantic would bury a 2 story house in a matter of minutes. That's no excuse for our being as cold as we are .
