From Emerald63 - Greetings, bgc. Thanks for your "naked kid on the ground" Histy submission. Given the Roman soldier's presence, my first thought was, "Great, another case of government interference in private parenting choices," LOL! Did you know that most scholars believe Jesus was actually born in the spring? But even then, lying naked on the ground is a seriously questionable choice, hehe.
A number of artists have depicted the Holy Child as being naked and lying on the ground to showcase His total humility. Always disturbed me, wondeer why JC was undergoung "neglect". So...I threw this together: http://cheezburger.com/7937684992
From Emerald63: About your National Gallery pics... when you upload them to ICHC, if you choose the "anyone can caption" option, I can then choose to "recaption" them, only not recaption them, just download the blank image to my hard drive. Then I can upload it, as a blank, to the HistoricLOLs MyPics section. This will allow other Histy fans to make their own LOLs from the images. But if you'd rather have only *your* caption on a picture, use the "no one but me can caption" option when you upload the image. Does this make sense?
From Emerald63: We'd love to see whatever you come up with, bgc. Would it be OK with you if we upload blanks of your resulting LOLs into HistoricLOLs MyPics? Please to let us know and where we can find the LOLs you plan to make. :)
You are invited to play a History game! http://cheezburger.com/7690873600 If you are not a friend to Alisaorrdaisy or NCCharmer you can still play. Leave your guesses/answers at the Historic_LOLs message window and they will be forwarded to NCCharmer.
Emerald63 here - Thank you for your recent kind words about Historic_LOLs! I saw your friend request to me personally but was away over the holiday weekend. I shall do my best to remember to accept it in the next day or two. :D
Alisaorrdaisy here: Thanks! I felt the artist deserved credit. We are having fun. Peeps have started LOL'ing those postcards already. Appreciate you pointing us in the direction of great searches and piccies!
From Emerald63: Thank you for the URL to the article on Alfred Mainzer's vintage cats-in-clothing postcards. I will share this with my co-moderators, AlisaorDaisy and Sylviag. I think we can probably figure out a way to share this with the whole Historic_LOLs gang. :D
