Ohai WatogaSue, so glad my "ELF" was able to facilitate my sharing. I have been so involved with folks in my life dealing with recovery/healing activities. That Elf was a gift, I wanted all of you to receive the colls I actually had no skill in sending and I wanted all of you to benefit from received goodies, bcs you are all so special to me! Enjoy! Yrz wif purrz, BGCMEOWRRRR
Thanks so much for sending those extra colls. my way. Been off line b'cause I was helping out w. in-laws. First, I went to stay w. them to be the driver to get my f-i-l to outpatient cataract & lens implant surgery, then back on Wed. morn for check-up & patch removal. Meanwhile, my m-i-l, who has never driven & has had many serious medical problems for many years, had to be taken to the ER by ambulance abt. 4:30AM on Wed. morn. At least, f-i-l could go with her while I closed up the house, took care of their 3 little pooches, & followed in their vehicle. Everything turned out as well as could be expected. She just was in extreme pain - evidently her pacemaker needs adj. & it was probably made worse because of waiting during hubby's surgery the previous day. Also, her potassium & sodium were off some. So, we stayed w. her in the ER & up in her room until it was clear that it was ok for me to drive him to the opth. at 8;30 AM. Of course, he stated that he "thinks that he could take his SUV for a spin", so off we went back to the hospital w,. me praying even more! ;-) The hosp. released her on Friday abt noon. She still has to get the pacemaker examined. The trouble is that she also has 2 aneurisms in her brain. Abt 30 yrs ago, she had her 1st triple bypass surgery in the Cleveland Clinic, so it's really a miracle that she has done as well as she has. It's just that now, they can't do cardiac surgery b'cause of the aneurisms and vice/versa. Just spoke w. her & she's doing ok. F-i-l is just returning from shopping. They're in their 80's now - he's 86 and she's 81.
I am *so* relieved to hear abt. Cats !!! In Aug. 1985, my animal-loving mother was actually fatally injured when hiking in search of a neighbor's de-clawed inside Siamese that escaped out their front door. Mother was a *very* experienced hiker - belonging to the Kanawha Trail Club, the Appalachian Trail Club, etc. I grew up hiking w. her & sometimes both my dad & her. (I actually met my hubby on one of those long hikes in 1966.) The thing was that she did not stop to put on her hiking boots, but had on rubber gardening boots. She was near the edge of a shale bank when it gave way & she fell 20+ feet to the rocks below. She never regained consciousness, nor had any brain activity. Mother *knew* to wear the right hiking gear & *knew* not to go close to the edge of such a bank. Hubby tracked her path & we figured from the evidence that she probably saw the escaped cat somewhere on the bank & tried to call it to her/get closer. I've been at peace w. it for a long time -not only because she was doing 2 things she loved, but another experience that I'll tell you about sometime.
Hey Sue, just so ya know, Cats IS safe, sound, at home, well cared for. I have felt chargrin that he took a hike I described, but it seems he gets rly ambitious and goes clambering up into places he maybe shouldn't. He got some lovely pics of a multitiered waterfall far above our home, then got caught in twilite on the way down, had mishaps, stuck from last Thurs. to late Sunday. I was located thru police- accessed phone records, and was able to "crack the case" at that time. Sheesh. It has been an illuminating/bonding experience for us both.
Do you ever get to the southwestern Montana-eastern Idaho-western Wyoming area? We're hoping to spend at least part of each year near the kids & grands after Hubby retires later this year. There is a fabulous one w. reasonable rates in Montana, http://www.chicohotsprings.com/ They're also dog-friendly. Many others in both Montana & Wyoming.
Whew! The sun came out just in time! I just went to our NOAA weather forecast & found that our biggest river-the Greenbrier, which flows right through our county seat, was expected to crest early this morn. at just 0.5 feet below flood level! We've had many floods before - unlike the Native Americans, when the white settlers put in railroads they also populated & built roads in the flood plain. It amazes me that while you can see the remnants of the Seneca Trail - which became a settlers' route - up on a hillside, our generation is still surprised & dismayed when it floods! Folks, that's why the original county seat was at Huntersville & NOT Marlinton! Even at Huntersville, the settlements were located on higher ground, away from streams that often flood. Oh, well, I'll step down off the soapbox for now.
Waaaal ohai WatogaSue!!! My ICHC visits are erratic. My sis (she's actually a real life simulacrum of my deceased sis Karen, named Karen as well--HS chums!) is going thru multiple manifestations of weird cancers. Kinda painful, emotionally, to us both. I may have to do a lot of care of/for her. I will strive to touch base with all of U cheezpeepz when I can. Will plop in a LOL whenever possible!
Oh, I just saw that you were on to fav at least one LOL. How are you? I actually was going to phone you this evening, but our phone card is out of minutes til we renew it. I'm getting ready to go up to the Wildlife Management Area personnel cabin to use the oven - the one in our residence is borked. Please do let us know on ICHC or by meow-mail how you're doing. Several of us are concerned b'cause we haven't heard from you lately. <):-) me in my Aussie Outback hat
Bonnie, the latest bunch came from several CFs inc AnOldCowhand (also in CA), NCcharmer, and Nikkadoo. May I ask for some of your colls - if they are not already promised? We're trying to get the colls. distributed as evenly as possible to CFs who are interested in completing the sets & hopefully, reaching "Club82". The ones I could find homes for right away are: Bacon, Ironic Mustache, Unrolled TP, Dress, Yarn, Charts, Hooman Bed, Laundry Basket, Printer, and/or Filez. Thanks & G'nite!
Tookat, Coeranch, BeckysDad, AnOldCowhand, BgcMeowrrrr, & other Cheezfriends.....A lot of you helped me w. suggestion & support when I adopted "Misty" (known as "Tippy" at the Hum. Soc.), a formerly abused kitty - the vet even had to amputate her tail. I just wanted to post some recent pics of her. She's like a miracle kitty - totally feline for the past year. In the 3 pics I just uploaded, you may recognize an old, handmade toolbox that I found in the barn. I cleaned it up to reuse it in the office to hold CDs & DVDs - saved files as well as music. As you can see, Misty found that the box wasn't quite full - just a few disks at each end. So, she decided to fill in the space! ;-)

Wow, just saw in your msg. to Tofu that you're back from your Alaska cruise! I'll bet that the days (& nights) *really* flew by for you. I'm not planning to head anywhere until *maybe* a holiday flight out to the NW to see the kids & grands again - trying to talk Hubby into going along. Boys say that he'll "chicken out" (When I flew for my 1st time out there in March, our younger one said that "Dad would never have done that on his own") He has flown several times , but that was going & coming in USMC in late 60s/early 70s. Anyhow, younger son & his young family are planning to come in this fall - especially so that Hubby's parents can see those great-grands. In late Oct., Hubby's bro says he may fly out to NW to visit both nephews & families, so we have a lot of comings & goings. Hubby drew a big-game hunting tag for one of the NW states this fall (for which he'd drive), but in the past few years he's cancelled several hunting trips because of his mom's health issues.
Oh, yes, I'm sending you a belated happy birthday greeting via www.BlueMountain.com We've been so busy w. regular stuff, but also, Hubby's mom has been very ill & in/out of ER & hosp., so schedules & plans have gone to the wind. B'cause of nuiscance/trapping black bear calls, we didn't even get to our planned Aug. 12th birthday drive/picnic nor meteror shower viewing for me until a couple of days later. Hubby ended up on a black bear call the next day which wound up better than might have been. Mama bear was fatally injured by a vehicle on Scenic Highway, but Hubby & other DNR personnel got there quickly enough to run twin cubs up a tree & keep them there (and public away) until the cubs could be safely tranquilized & moved to a safe cub-growing environment. This was the first time the newest Wildllife Manager in Poc. Co. had seen bear cubs this close, much less handled them, so he was extremely excited. Unfortunately, no one had a camera, altho. they did get a couple of pics w. the newest W. Mgr's cell phone so that he could send it to his wife. (She grad. top of her Wildlife Mgmnt class at WVU and now is in grad studies at VA Tech in Blacksburg, VA - paid through a research-study grant.)
So glad to remind myself that you're getting to take that Alaska cruise :-) I know that you'll really enjoy it!!! Remember to enjoy it for those of us who have never been on one & those of us who wish they could repeat a drive and/or a cruise to Alaska! Before I forget it, when you get back, you'll have a WVDNR Wildlife Art Calendar from us. I meant to give one to you last year & misplaced it before you visited. I figure that even tho 1/2 of this 2011 year is gone, you'll still enjoy the art & the facts. I've ordered a 2012 one to be mailed directly to you later this fall. That way, you can look ahead to what will be happening in the Eastern USA mountains and when. Remember to take plenty of pics of your Alaska trip to share w. us. Watoga/Sue
