Whoa.. u haz too many tacksez! It's a little more streamlined here. Thanks for your comments about the brace. It had BETTER work, after paying so much!

By icguy34 on Apr 17, 2014 at 9:50 PM

Oh my! That's a lot of money! It's a shame that your insurance doesn't pay for the full amount. When I saw that Michael Moore documentary "Sicko" and it showed the national health care systems for Great Britain and France, it appeared to me that the govt paid EVERYTHING for a medical problem. So I thought that's the way it also worked in Australia. I hope the brace works out fine for you and your ankle. - Besides Federal Taxes in the US, we also have State Income Taxes too, plus Sales Taxes and high levels of Real Estate Taxes and gasoline taxes, and a lot of other taxes too!! Do you have to pay something like the State Taxes?

My ankle has been a mess for a couple of years, now. The arthritis made it collapse and previous surgery didn't help. My health insurance will cover about half the cost, which is just as well, as it costs $1,000!!! The brace will stop my right ankle collapsing outwards and stop me falling over. As for Australian taxes, they are just as crazy as yours, but with a different accent!

By icguy34 on Apr 15, 2014 at 9:21 PM

Thanks for that. Yes, dat Rupert Tabsworth kittie is a real star, and the girl kitties like him a lot! What's this about your ankle? Did you injure it recently? That's too bad about the brace costing so much.. So many medical expenses are so high, it's sucha shame. Does your national insurance pay for all or most of the brace cost? You also have private insurance, isn't that right? Does that help too with the brace? I think it would be great if you didn't have to pay anything to get the brace. Afterall, that's the purpose of having insurance in the first place. I'm very pleased to hear that Suzie is doing well. Will the brace clear up any problems you're having? I hope so.. - By the way, today is tax deadline day in the US. Taxes have to be mailed out today, unless you ask for an extension. I was able to get mine done, even though they were messy this year. I'm glad that's out of the way. In the US, it really can be difficult trying to figure out how to fill out the tax forms. It's such a waste of time for so many people. And the taxes keep getting more complicated each year. How are the Aussie taxes? Are your tax forms relatively straightforward to fill out? I hope so.

Hi, icguy34, I'm enjoying your lols. That Rupert Tabsworth must be quite a guy! I hope you and Blackie are keeping well. Suzie is great. As for me, the surgeons have decided that they can't operate on my ankle, so I have to wear a HIDEOUSLY expensive brace.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you're enjoying my lols. It's nice to know that people are getting a giggle out of them!

Thanks! The kitten is certainly MUCH cuter than Tim Robbins!

Hi Raekathy.. I likes your new LOL - LOL Cats Film Appreciation Society re-enactment of "The Shawshank Redemption". That's such a cute kitten, isn't it? He looks so sweet and mischievous.

The fires were near Melbourne, but they are under control now. We have had a long, dry summer and there is a lot of fuel around for fires. Sudden changes in wind direction has been making them unpredictable.

By icguy34 on Feb 19, 2014 at 3:30 PM

Those captions that come easy are often the best! Congrats again. I hope you get many more too!... In previous PM you mentioned fires near the city. What city is that? I recall seeing on TV some years ago big brush fires near Sidney. Here is the US, Southern California gets bad brush fires each summer where lots of expensive homes get burned. California is naturally dry there and they also can get terrible winds up to 80 MPH or more that really whips the fires up and makes it very difficult to control. I hope there are no fires near you!

Thanks so much! It was just the first thing that popped into my head! My brain works in mysterious ways...

Hi raekathy.. I'm so happy to see you get a LOLcat FP with "TLC, or KFC".. That's a very funny LOL.. YYYIIIPPPPEEEEE!!!!

We do have some snow in Australia and in New Zealand, but only for a short time every year. Some years there is so little snow on the ski fields that they have to bring in snow machines! As for the weather here, it is still pretty hot and we have had a lot of bush fires close to the city, so there's a lot of smoke in the air. A relative of mine has several families staying with her now, as they have lost their homes. Just awful!

By icguy34 on Feb 15, 2014 at 4:01 PM

Oh, that's too bad that the past Olympics caused your RV to esplode! That must have been scary. I never had that happen to me, instead TVs just tend to wear out gradually or to stop working all together. I thought there might be snow and skiing in New Zealand that the Aussies could use for training for the winter sports. I noticed that Norway is a real powerhouse in the Winter Olympic Games, so that even a relatively small country can get more medals than anyone else. Is it still hot where you are? A lot of the US has had a terrible winter with lots of snow and bitter cold, which really escalates our heating bills. I really look forward to Spring and some more moderate temps and more hours of sunlight per day. Take care and say hello to Suzie for me and Blackie.

By raekathy on Feb 15, 2014 at 2:11 PM

Thank you for the Valentine's greeting! I hope that you and Blackie are keeping well. I haven't been watching much of the Winter Olympics. The last two times there were Olympics on, I had an exploding television and a malfunctioning antenna! Possibly just a coincidence! The Winter Olympics are quite tricky for Australians, as we are rather lacking in the ice and snow department. Our athletes tend to have to practice on water or dirt, instead!

By icguy34 on Feb 15, 2014 at 11:51 AM

Raekathy.. I want to wish you a very happy Valentine's Day! Oh, and also a wonderful Valentine's Day for sweet Suzie.. I hope all is going well with you and that your medical tests are completed and that they give you some good results.. Have you been watching any of the Winter Olympics? I haven't seen too much, except for the Figure Skating type events. The pairs event a couple of days ago was excellent, especially for the Gold and Silver winners. They were both Russian teams. I especially liked the Silver Medal winners - Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov, who were phenomenal, and who I thought should have won. Are the Aussies doing OK at the Olympics?

For me, the scariest part of "Sicko" was when they were throwing sick people out of hospital and onto the streets because they had run out of money. That would NEVER happen over here! As for insurance, we can shop around for the best deal and they HAVE to sell it to us, no matter what our medical history might be. The cheapest isn't always the best, though! I used to have a cheaper cover, but it was becoming more and more difficult to put a claim through, so I switched to a better one. They must think "oh, no... not HER again!", but they always pay up! As for Suzie's accent, I think a meow is a meow in any language!

By icguy34 on Jan 26, 2014 at 8:07 PM

Since Australia Day is so much fun, they should celebrates it ebery month! I saw the Michael Moore documentary "Sicko" a few months ago, and I have been recommending it to my sister to see when it comes back on TV. I think that Sicko is really excellent AND it's accurate, except that the healthcare situation in the US has gotten even worse, especially in the last 6 months. Millions of people are really hurting here because of lack of insurance. Obama has tried to provide healthcare to some people not covered yet, but the implementation of Obamacare which has just been in the last couple months has been a disaster. Because of Obamacare, millions of people who had health insurance and a doctor they liked, have lost BOTH! And they have to look for often much more expensive medical insurance with a smaller network of doctors. It's a real mess. And you're right about not wanting to get sick in the US, if you were on vacation here for example. Remember that in Sicko, Michael Moore's relatives in Canada wouldn't visit the US unless they purchase insurance for the time they would be in the US! And at the end of the documentary, I thought it so sad that some the rescue worker heroes of 911 had to go to Cuba to get the medical care they needed but couldn't get in the US. That kind of thing should not happen. - On another note, does since Suzie is Australian, does she habs an Aussie accent??

By raekathy on Jan 26, 2014 at 2:16 PM

Thanks for your Australia Day greeting! There are street parades, fireworks and a public holiday involved in our celebrations. Luckily, the weather has cooled down a bit. I'd hate to get sick in America, I've seen Michael Moore's "Sicko"! If that's anythng to go by, I'm staying right here! AS to your question about the winter, it doesn't get anywhere near that cold here! It seldom gets below 11 or 12 celcius. Yes, Suzie DOES look cute running through her tunnel!

By icguy34 on Jan 25, 2014 at 10:58 PM

Hi there, raekathy, and a very Happy Australia Day to you!! Is that like our July 4th in the US where we have fireworks?... You're fortunate to live in a country where you receive the medical care you need at no cost to you, at least for a public hospital. We are not that fortunate in the US. About 40 million people or more have no health insurance here. And the ones that do have it generally have to pay a lot of money for it, and then when you need it, if your condition is covered, there are still big deductibles and co-pays before you actually receive the coverage you need. For people with lower incomes, the lack of insurance is a very big concern. I think it's a disgrace that the US doesn't provide insurance to all its citizens, like all the other Western countries do.. -- About the weather, it's very cold here again. By Monday and Tuesday, it's forecast to be 20 degrees BELOW zero Fahrenheit (which is -29 degrees Celcius)!! And with a wind of 25 MPH on exposed skin that would feel like -51 F (or -46 C) and you can get frostbite in 10 minutes for exposed skin. When the temperature gets that low, that's when the schools often close for the day. Does it get that cold Where you live in the winter? Also, the cost of heating your home skyrockets on such cold days, just like the cost to cool a home skyrockets on very hot days like you've been having.. Has it cooled off for you an' sweet Suzie yet? I bet suzie looks real cute going through that tunnel toy of hers.

By raekathy on Jan 22, 2014 at 10:32 PM

I will get some money back from the government for my visit to electric needle lady. When an Australian visits a public hospital, everything is free. My MRIs cost me nothing. However, this was a private consultation. I have health insurance, which is great for private hospital visits and extras, but doesn't cover appointments like that one. It is illegal to refuse anyone health insurance in Australia, no matter how sick you might be. Medicare is for everyone and is free. I get GP visits and anything done in a public hospital for nothing. Good, eh? Suzie coped well with the heat. She went outside once, and came back in again straight away! She is still watching her favorite shows and playing with her toys. A friend gave her a play tunnel for Christmas and she loves it!

By icguy34 on Jan 22, 2014 at 6:40 PM

Wow! That 45 degrees Celcius is 113 Fahrenheit which is way too hot! I guess you're having that Global Warming in Australia while we have the Polar Vortex! UGGH! such weather extremes are bad. How is your kittie Suzie getting along in the heat? Is she chasing her toys around? an' watching her favorite TV shows? You certainly get poked a lot by those doctors and with electronic needles too! I hope they can get you all fixed up if they find something. And $100 for a doctor visit and those electric needles is too much. Doesn't Australia have universal healthcare for it's citizens? We don't have that at all in the US. People have to get their health insurance from work or buy it themselves, unless they get Medicare when they retire, which also has a monthly charge for it.

By raekathy on Jan 22, 2014 at 2:19 AM

45 degrees celcius four days running!!! It's been BOILING here! There were reports that there were ambulances called out for heart attacks every minute! I tried to leave early and get back early , but even then it was very hot outside. It's cooled down a fair bit, now. I hope the cold isn't getting to you too much. MRI results... knee caps is borked, no cartilige behind thems. Saw a neuroligist yesterday and she stuck more electric needles in me. Then, she charged me $100! She should have payed me! I hope that you and Blackie are both keeping well.

By icguy34 on Jan 21, 2014 at 9:16 PM

Hi raekathy.. How are you doing? I read that the Austrailan Tennis Championship in Melbourne is getting some extreme hot temperatures, and some games were even suspended because of that! Are you getting the same very hot temps where you are? It's still very cold here. Did you get some good results from those MRI tests? I hope so.

By icguy34 on Jan 11, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Hi raekathy.. Yes, we finally got some "normal" weather here in Wisconsin, where it's now a few degrees above freezing, rather than 50 degrees below freezing.. But it's kinda drizzly. I likes you recent LOL - "Inevitably teh loser!" I fink dat kittie will falls asleep real soon..

By raekathy on Jan 9, 2014 at 10:40 PM

Whoa! It must be shockingly cold in your part of the world. I just saw the amazing pictures of Niagara Falls frozen! They'll have to call them Niagara Stills for a while! I hope you and Blackie are staying thawed out and that it warms up soon!

By raekathy on Jan 4, 2014 at 10:28 PM

The weather here is way below average for summer, about the low twenties (celcius), rather than 30 or over. OMG, my fingerz n toes would drop off in -29, aifinkso! I hope that you and Blackie are keeping as warm as humanly and kittehly possible!

By icguy34 on Jan 4, 2014 at 8:38 PM

Hi dare, raekathy.. Those black kitties on the pipes look so much alike.. I think they must be brothers an' sisters.. They are really beautiful kitties, an' day posed so nicely for the photo.. It really will be icy cold here by Monday. The HIGH for the day is forecast at -13 degrees F with a LOW of -20 degrees F.. an' in Celsius that's -25 for a HIGH and -29 for a LOW.. And the winds could be strong too! I thnk I'll try to stay indoors that day wiff my Blackie.. What kind of weather are you having down under in Australia? I hope it's a lot better than what I have now.

By raekathy on Jan 3, 2014 at 11:04 PM

I'm glad you like the lol cats on pipe. They should help in your freezing winter. If they get stuck in the pipes, just add tuna!
