Hi! Sam has been a guest speaker at our events on at least 2 occasions. Also Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Elaine Pagels, etc. I WISH you could be here to go to these events with Tim and me! Tim has 2 published books on the Bible and is on staff of Skeptic magazine. What is impressing me about Armstrong is that she has been articulating well footnoted material that involves insights I came by completely independently (fueled by anecdotal evidence) over the last 30 years, before I ever read any of her books. Yeah, reinventing the wheel...but I feel so validated by reading her works...no one has all the answers, but both Sam and Karen have a goodly number thereof. Send me an Emayo willya, pritty pleez?
Regarding Exodus...I have been reading books by Karen Armstrong...maybe I said this before. She sorts out ancient religious development in an impressive and clarified way. (to MY liking!) She, as well as others, have delineated the "literal/logos/objective/conservative" perception of reality that strictly religious people adhere to in a very rigid way, compared to the "mythic/legendary/subjective/ nonconservative/creative" mind set you and I dwell in. It seems that Chris Impey's monks are part of the latter pathway. How, we here in the Western world (Australia--is it as married to the Trad Xtian way of being as much as USA?)...can we keep connected to that mythic/creative reality in the face/maw of the so-called "Western Tradition"? I look fwd to your reply, and pls feel free to use my email@example.com address for your insights.
OHAI! I had a mighty fine experience at Cal Tech today. Chris Impey, a noted astronomer, meets up with Buddhist Monks in Tibet yearly, in Exile HQ, to teach them how to do science. They seem to be the type to liberate themselves from the shackles of the past! Playful and insightful. Then we viewed "Particle Fever", about the quest for subatomic particles--the Higgs Boson. All of these folks are so liberated from the cloying cloisters of our Western Abrahamic religions that they JUST DO NOT let that stuff impede them. I have met neuroscientists and physicists, cosmologists and evolutionary biologists. Amazing people. I wish I could have been one of their ilk. Just had to share...
You really nailed it with Happy Snake. That IS the core, nut, seed, of why JC had to come on down and be sacrificed. And even in spite of that wimmen are still dissed to this day. You gotta read Karen Armstrong's "The Gospel According to Woman".
Yikes yr in Sydney? Why did I think you were in east USA??? I just found out about "repositioning cruises" from Yurii, an oldtimer here on ICHC...maybe those might create a remotely affordable way to get to Aussiworld. I have other peeps there I wd like to visit. More pennies to save! Purrrz...
Hey! HONKHONK Big news! I set up a mail drop for ICHC peeps who want to meet up with me. I would copy contact info into a text file and delete all entries to protect privacy. <firstname.lastname@example.org> I sees u R havin SO much fun with centurion boyo. *GIGGLE*
I wouldn't likely want to come back either. And, truth about coming back quick, maybe he does have a girlfriend else where, another good reason not come back, "honey, I have to work late this millennia" btw, there's BC & AD, but what year did Jesus think it was in between? You should find a good pic and write something like that! Pc
