I've been a jewelry/bead artist for many years. I've always been willing to teach techniques that I've developed or adapted, but back in the beginning I didn't want to, because I knew that they would then teach other people and I was really, really paranoid about it. Then, one day, I noticed a woman in line in front of me at a store who was wearing a really neat piece, constructed like nothing else I'd ever seen. I found myself fiddling with old materials in a new way and - tadah - I had a piece very similar to what I'd seen. I guess what it comes down to is that art - any type of art - can inspire, and the inspiration always somhow pays homage to the original. Does that make any sense?
I ask myself the same question a lot. Honestly, there have been some very simple lols that I expanded into one of my signature wordy things, or I'll think of another way to phrase it that seems to work better for me. I think of copying as using the same pic, same words, but changing spelling or font or adding a word or two. Some ideas seem to be universal, others not so much. Does that answer your question? (I think I just created more ?'s of my own!)
