Fang-Q, Mama!! I hassa sooprized it happened so fast, like only a day or two after I made it! Funny thing... I've never bought a house. Guess that's how much the scenario has made an impact on our collective psyche, eh?

More gratsez for ur goggie FP! ++ Yup "Lucky" is still here. I'm leaning toward a new name, though, as the other cats act so unlucky to have him around that I feel bad saying it and I have to Say.It.A.Lot. We're considering "Joonyer," as in the Scottish accent way Sean Connery refers to his son in the Indiana Jones movies. At times things are quiet here, but when he gets going... OMG. At least he's amenable to being picked up frequently, which means I can lift him out of whatever mess he's gotten himself into - or created. I dunno... are male cats usually more hyper as kittens? We've had male cats but only one as a kitten and I don't remember him being this over the top. ++ Snow, huh? And you're happy about it, eh? Well, there's no accounting for sanity I suppose. It was 97' here yesterday, but today it's gotten up to just 70'. I do like it when the really high temps go away, but I definitely prefer a bit of autumn before we launch into winter. I don't usually get it, but I do prefer it. >:( You are more than welcome to any and all snow that might be around before, oh say, mid-December. I don't mind looking at snow out the window, it's kinda pretty actually. But having to go out in it is just a pain, not the least reason being that we don't have a garage, or even a car port. Makes every conceivable need to go somewhere take frickin' forever! Hopefully that's a long way off for us, even if we have lost our summer temps. If it would just stay in the upper 70s to low 80s for while, darn it! ++ Bless you for mentoring the stoopy puter contingent. I know how much I appreciate it when anyone can explain stuff to me that paid techs make indecipherable. :D

Thanks for the gratzez, Em. Sry this is late. I mentor some of the less-computer-savvy folks here in our buildings computer lab and have been busy helping them. What a great rescue story! Kudos to Mark!! Is Lucky still with you? That's why I can't foster kittehs....I would NEVER be able to let them go!! Well, we've got snow in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning!! If we get a measurable amount, it will be the earliest snowfall in Butte EVER!! I LOVE IT!! Hope your week is going well. Hugs to you and Mark and bonx to Lucky (and the others!!) mamadub

Heya Mama! Congratsez on ur 2 recent Kitteh FPs! I been busy recording a couple series from OnDemand before they go away (The Borgias and The Tudors), so I haven't been here much in the last week. Almost done, though. Another reason I'm distracted is that Mark brought home another cat. (O_o) He was at work last Friday night when this young blond tiger tom came into the plant. A co-worker put it back outside a couple times, but it was right back in. It came directly to Mark's machine, which like all the machines are dangerous for kittehs to be around. But then, silly thing tried to get a drink out of... his coolant bucket! O Noes!! So he found a cardboard box, put some air holes in it and taped up the top with the little guy in it (after giving him water, of course) so he'd be safe for the couple hours til quitting time. He did call me on the way home to let me know they were coming, but it's been periodic chaos since then. Our 4 girls were finally getting into a workable groove that was somewhat less dramatic than before we lost our 2 eldest about a year ago. But nope... back to lots of hissing, growling, and skirmishes. Sigh. I talked with Mark about finding another home for "Lucky" but it's come out that it means a great deal to him that Lucky came to his machine, that he is so affectionate with Mark, and even greets him at the door every night. Mark's a sensitive soul and he's never gotten over losing "his girl," Annie, who did the same things. We had to put her down despite her being alert and smothering us with lubz'n'kissez. She'd become paralyzed in her back legs, likely due to a growth intertwined with her spinal cord. She'd also stopped eating. Other cats we've had to help across The Bridge were in very bad ways and it was a kindness. But Annie... Oh Gods it was the most awful thing we've ever had to do. And now this little boy, not more than 6 months old if that, has won his heart. We're still reserving the possibility of passing him on (we have 2 offers from good people) but it looks like we'll probably be parenting 5. Hell, we'd never wanted more than 2! But you know what they say... Cats Happen. He is cute... So keep your fingers crossed for us, 'kay? ++ So hab u had teh snowzez yet? Iz still 95' heer, but'll only be sebenty tomorrow!! Juss in timez fur teh state fare. :)

Conga Ratsez on ur AnCap an Kitteh FPs, Mama! I took a look at that comment... if you can call it that. WTH? Are they talking about Ben Huh? Is that a threat or a commentary on the state of ICHC? If not him, who? Doubt it's the Uncle Ben's Rice guy. And I can't figure any connection to your LOL at all. Have you asked Tofu about it, see if she can find out more? That's not fight having such a disturbing image just floating around and definitely not right having it attached to your LOL! ++ Still getting better, though my allergy aches and pains are kicking up quite a bit. We had a good weekend. Well, mostly good - hubster's team got wiped in a pre-season game. But... 12th Doctor premiere! WOOT!!

We did have a 25' drop yesterday when a storm cell went through, but it's back up to 99' again today. Supposed to be till at least Wednesday. I don't have to be out in it, though, so being sick is not as bad as it might be. Fanks fur finkin' ub me!

By Emerald63 on Aug 23, 2014 at 4:22 PM

That is SOOO cool about your brother's band! And the doc won an Emmy?! Color me impressed!! ++ Thanks for the rain thoughts. Just EDd that you have the flu! I'm so sorry. Being sick in the summer so sucks!! I wish I could send some of our coolness to you. It has been rainy and cold for a couple of days. Supposed to be in the very low 30s tonight. I really hope you feel better soon, my friend. Have missed chatting with you! Much love and healing thoughts from mamadub, six and magic

Christian helped form a band in 1970 called Mission Mountain Wood Band. He plays mandolin, fiddle and guitar and messes around with just about every other kind of instrument. Now he still performs with Mission Mountain occasionally but also has two or three other acts that he takes out on the road mostly in the northwest. Back in the day their music was called Electric Bluegrass but they play rock, country, gospel, blues and fused it all into their own sound. Recorded a couple of albums and then split up for years. Then in 1992 they got together for a reunion concert and found out that the love was still out there and have been performing in the summer since. They made a documentary for PBS called Never Long Gone that won an Emmy! Here is a tune from an outdoor concert at Big Timber in 2010: http://cheezburger.com/43209473 That's Chris getting nuts on the fiddle. He's been playing that song for 44 years! And then here is one of my favorite songs from their first album with footage from the same concert: http://cheezburger.com/43209729 (Chris on guitar) If you are interested in more , just Google Mission Mountain Wood Band and click videos....there's a bunch!! Enough of the shameless sister promotion!! Will try to get some of the rain to you!!

By Emerald63 on Aug 15, 2014 at 3:39 PM

Bands? What sort of music/instrument does he play? Sounds nice being able to make money making music. :) No sweat on having to wait. I mean, all the older folks are gone already anyway, right? ++ Is hail unusual in your area? We get it way more often than I'd like here. A huge storm last July damaged our van (we don't have a garage). There was a whole fiasco of miscommunication with the insurance people (we just wanted to know if our deductible would cover a new windshield) and they ended up "totaling" it, meaning they won't insure it for anything other than liability now. Doesn't matter that all the damage was cosmetic - we still can't get any $ for mechanical issues. >:( Sorry your kittehs got scareded. Ours hear storms often enough that it doesn't bother them too much. ++ No fires - YEA!!! It's getting hot again here. It's been a really weird year weather wise - stayed cool much longer than usual, then when summer did get here it occasionally went on "vacation" leaving us with daytime temps in the 70s, even the 60s a couple times, and it's been in the low to mid 80s rather frequently. But we're supposed to be back up near/at 100' starting tomorrow. Hoping for rain, though. The last two years we've had more rain than usual, which was so welcome because of the ongoing drought beforehand. In fact, until just a couple months ago we'd had *2x* as much for the year to that point as usual! But we've slowly dropped back closer and closer to our average amount and we've now slipped just 1/10th or so behind. So... if you can think "Southeast, head southeast..." really hard, maybe all *your* rain will turn into *my* rain, eh?

By mamawalker on Aug 15, 2014 at 3:05 PM

LOL! Thanks!! I was just telling allcats about how patient that kitteh was in a costume! And such a sweet, sweet face!! I sent Christian an email about it but he is out of town performing with one of his bands (Summer is their biggest booking time) and I'm not sure when he will be able to respond. We had quarter-sized hail this afternoon and a strong West wind. Terrified the cats and for awhile, I just knew the window was going to crack. Thankfully, it was a pretty brief storm. In the last week, we've had LOTS of lightning but also LOTS of rain with it, so now fires yet. Whew. Is it still really hot there?

By Emerald63 on Aug 15, 2014 at 2:58 PM

Cute Chick FP Gratsez! Go figure the patience of some cats, willing to sit calmly with a chicken hat on. I remember a similar pic from years ago. You could see its human's arms and I think they were looking at a magazine/comic book. Kitteh was saying, "So let me get this straight... a hooman in tights is a super hero, but a kitteh in a chicken hat is silly?" Loved the incredulity. Also love how good a friend your LOLcat is being. :D ++ Have you had a chance to ask your brother where in Arkansas Grampa Hamburger came from? I still need to figure out if my great grandpa Hamilton had siblings or cousins.

By Emerald63 on Aug 13, 2014 at 4:05 PM

Hmm... I don't remember anyone named Calvin (or Hobbs, for that matter), but I just realized I don't know if my great-grandfather (the Hamilton) had brothers or cousins around. Also, I was thinking he came from western Tennessee to Arkansas, but I think that was just my great-grandmother's family and that they married once she got there. I think she lived in the north central part of the state. That's where my grandma was born and lived before moving to the southeast to teach school as a young woman. That's where she met my grandpa and lived the rest of her life. If you can remember where your Hamiltons are from we can start to figure out if there's any chance of a connection. It's a pretty common name, but being from a rural area/small town, in that era, it might be possible. Gotta sign off for now and switch gears before my DVR explodes, LOL. TTYL :D

By mamawalker on Aug 13, 2014 at 3:24 PM

Holy Cow! That would be cool! I know that he had a brother named Calvin who stayed back there. But I am the matriarch in the family now...on both sides. :( I'm not sure if there is any family history still around cause most everyone is gone. I'll check with my brother and get back to you. I really only ever researched the other side of the family tree for the Indian tribal information. Until then, maybe we'll just be Cousins Several Times Removed!! :D

By Emerald63 on Aug 13, 2014 at 3:13 PM

Sylvia let me know she doesn't have your addy. Could we maybe figure out something else? This is too cool. :D

By Emerald63 on Aug 13, 2014 at 2:54 PM

Wait... Hamilton? MY family has Hamiltons in it! Do you have any way to find out where he was from or if he had brothers/sisters, what his parents' names were, etc? If you like, you can ask Sylviag for my email addy, if you have hers, that is. I'll let her know it's OK. This could be awesome if we're related!!!

By mamawalker on Aug 13, 2014 at 2:48 PM

LOL!! His last name was Hamilton but we all used Hamburger from the time we could say the word! I'm not sure where he was from but I do know it wasn't from any of the big cities. He left when he was quite young and came West. He was my true mentor...so smart, even without College. He was completely anti-GoodOleBoy and I clearly remember when my brother was about 6 or 7 and came to Grampa's house and repeated from school the N word. My Grampa knocked him about into the middle of next week and said that we don't use language like that in his house. Sry...memorites...I miss him so and he's been gone 25 years.

By Emerald63 on Aug 13, 2014 at 2:38 PM

Really? His family name was Hamburger? I've heard that before, but never known anyone directly connected to it. Where in Arkansas, do you know?

By mamawalker on Aug 13, 2014 at 2:36 PM

Thanks, Em!! Yeah, my Grampa Hamburger used to say it all the time and he also was from Arkansas! I'm sure we spread it throughout California and Nevada! :D

By Emerald63 on Aug 13, 2014 at 2:05 PM

AnCap an Goggie Gratsez! Do people outside the South say "madder than a wet hen"? My mom used it all the time, but she was from SE Arkansas. So glad you, at least, knew the saying as it is the **perfect** "behind the LOL" lol. :D
